A Call For Submissions
Between The Lines
Writers of Every Age, Stage, and (nearly) Every Genre Are
Welcome To Submit!

Submission Deadline:
June 1, 2021

We believe a more harmonious and supportive society begins with literacy.  We believe that a successful life begins with, and is enhanced by, the written word.  We believe that not everyone is able or inclined to pick up trash by the side of the road or give blood or donate financially in order to contribute to the well-being of their community.  We know there must be an alternative.  We believe that alternative is the Power of The Pen!
One of the things that gives the pursuit of writing meaning is the impact our words have on the lives of others.  What we write, whether real or imagined, can, and often does, spark tremendous connectivity with our readers.  Words give others permission to feel, learn, and understand points of view or concepts that perhaps they would not have encountered, had they not picked up a book.

Works of charity, we believe, are essential to the empathetic, evolutionary path humanity must travel if it is going to sustain and prevail throughout the next seven generations, and beyond.

Without the goal of improving literacy standards the world over, our society is doomed to fail.   An illiterate population hinders every aspect of a country's development... it's economy, agriculture, industry and manufacturing, arts, sciences, technology, and most importantly, governing.  A society that lacks basic literacy skills is threatened by terrorists, despots, and, most tragically, apathy.

Proceeds from sales of this book will support the World Literacy Foundation. and their mission to grow individuals and communities through the written word.

“We strive to ensure that every young individual regardless of geographic location has the opportunity to acquire literacy skills to reach their full potential, succeed at school and beyond.  We envision a world in which every one of us can read and write, in which there is free access to education for all.”
To support the needs of the world's illiterate population, and to give writers a place to share their talent and creativity, we have created a new Community Service Anthology.

Between The Lines is a collection of short stories
that imagines what might happen if a character from a book somehow unlocked a way to communicate directly with the reader, but only when the book's covers are open. What would they say to each other?  How might their interaction effect the story? What can be discovered when you read Between The Lines?

Writers are encouraged to choose a genre that most interests them... perhaps that is horror or romance, comedy or science fiction, fantasy, or action/adventure...  perhaps it's a creative combination of several different genres... wherever their muse takes them, we give writers (nearly) free reign to imagine worlds, craft characters and build plots that surprise and delight, mystify and excite, or trouble and entertain in new and different ways.

There are only three rules: write within the prompt; keep it rated PG; and don't exceed 8,000 words.

The Submission Deadline for this anthology is
June 1, 2021.

Please Share Your Words...  You May Inspire Others...

NOTICE: To avoid copyright issues, please be sure that the foundation you are using to write your submission meets one of these three criteria:
    1. A re-imagining of a work that is in the public domain (author is responsible for verification and any violation consequences).
    2. Permission has been gifted from the original creator of the story or characters that you are using as your foundation (author is responsible for verification and any violation consequences).
    3. Your submission is a 100% original writing.
Submissions are now being accepted from writers of every age, stage and (nearly) every genre for Between The Lines.  This anthology is intended as a collection of short stories, only.  Poetry and essays will not be accepted.

THE PROMPT: Writers, we want you to write a short story that imagines what might happen if a character from a book somehow unlocked a way to communicate directly with the reader, but only when the book's covers are open. What would they say to each other?  How might their interaction effect the story?  What can be discovered when you read Between The Lines?

Writers are encouraged to choose a genre that most interests them... perhaps that is horror or romance, comedy or science fiction, fantasy, or action/adventure...  perhaps it's a creative combination of several different genres... wherever your muse takes you, we give writers nearly free reign to imagine worlds, craft characters and build plots that surprise and delight, mystify and excite, or trouble and entertain in new and different ways.

You might even want to use a book you've already written as the foundation for this prompt (a great way to draw attention to established authors' previously published works).

Or, ask an author whose work you admire, if you can have permission to create a "fan fiction" of their work for this project.  Some Indie Authors, especially, may be delighted to see how you might re-imagine an aspect of their novel.

THE RULES: There are only three rules: write within the prompt; keep your submission rated PG; and don't exceed 8,000 words.  Flash fiction pieces are acceptable, but Erotica submissions will not be accepted.

We encourage young writers to submit their work, as well, and therefore, we must ask that all submissions are "family-friendly" in genre, situation, and language content.  If minor children would like to submit a story, a parent or guardian must complete the submission form.

The submission deadline is June 1, 2021.    The anticipated release date is August 1, 2021.
Fields with a red asterisk (*) are required for submission.
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: Submissions from High School Students will be awarded a certificate for two hours of community service, to go toward their State of Michigan Graduation requirement.  We are unaware of other States' requirements, but we will be happy to award students with a certificate, should it be acceptable to their teachers and school administrators.

AUTHOR AGREEMENTS: I understand that by submitting my work, I give Pages Promotions, LLC rights and permissions to print, publish, and sell my work in both print and e-book formats for inclusion in this anthology, only.  I understand that I am submitting my work for charity purposes, and I will not receive royalty payments or complimentary copies.

I understand that I own my work, and may submit it to other publications, as I choose.  I understand that Pages Promotions, LLC accepts simultaneous submissions, and that it's acceptable if the piece I submit for the Between The Lines  anthology appears in other book(s) previously, at the same time, or at a later date.

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Submissions must be in either MS Word or RTF formats, of 8,000 words. or fewer.  You may submit more than one piece, but each must be submitted with it's own form.  Files with multiple submissions, or files submitted in the wrong format, will be deleted without being considered for editing or inclusion.
    Max file size: 20MB
Headshot Photos must be submitted in black & white, 300dpi, in jpg format only.  Headshots that do not meet these requirements will not be included.
    Max file size: 20MB
