2021 Summer Virtual Book Festival

Huzzah to Captain of The Fleet, Kristoffer Gair!
The most important thing we can do to help build awareness for our Indie Author Community is to spread the word about our Summer Reading Regatta, and invite readers to attend.  To reach this goal of greater outreach, we have designed a Virtual Port Huron to Mackinac Race (after the actual Sailing Race held every year in Michigan) to incentivize more invitations to readers.

Important Terms:
Captains = Participating Authors
Shoreline Spectators = Readers
Harbor Stops = Locations on the Race Map (see graphic above)
Race Leg =  A Zoom Reading Event
Venetian Night = The Wrap Party
Important Note: When a Captain attends another Captain's Race Leg, they will be considered a Shoreline Spectator, and their registration will count toward leader board tallies, providing they report invitations accordingly.

Points are NOT awarded for replay views.  Only Shoreline Spectators who register their invitation for the LIVE Race Legs are added to point tallies.
Race Goals
  • Reading Regatta Total Spectators = 1,000
  • Total Number of Harbor Stops = 14
  • Number of Race Legs = 26
  • Race Leg Spectators Goal = 34 at each event
  • Number of Points Required to Move North To The Next Harbor Stop = 3
  • Points Awarded for Each Spectator = 1
Race Committee Rules
  • The Race begins on June 1, 2021.
  • Captains invite Shoreline Spectators to the Race Legs to win points and move north through the course.  
  • Shoreline Spectators will report which Captain invited them when they register with Zoom for each Race Leg.  If a Spectator has been invited by multiple Captains to a race leg, they should report all of the Captain's names when they register for the event.
  • Each Captain's points will be tracked on the Race Leaderboard (see below), and will be updated by 1:00 PM the day after each Race Leg.
  • Captains will be awarded points for all Race Legs that Spectators report... not just their own.  So the more Shoreline Spectators report YOU as their Inviting Captain, the more points you will earn - whether it's your event, or a fellow Captain's event.  Remember, the goal is outreach to readers for the entire Fleet!
​Prizes:
  • ​Captains who make it all the way to Mackinac Island State Harbor before June 30, 2021 will receive a Snazzy Medal.
  • During Venetian Night, the Captain of The Fleet will be randomly selected, using the Spinny Wheel of Happiness, from the list of Captains who finish the Race before June 30, 2021.
  • The Captain of The Fleet will receive a Snazzy Trophy, Festival Swag, Free Entry to our October 2021 Festival, and a $50 Amazon Gift Card.
