Our goal is to create a strong community for Indie Authors and the people who read them. We want to bring like-minded souls together to celebrate the written word as sacred, no matter the content. We want to support writers in their passion for the craft, and to demonstrate to others that books can be far more entertaining than the screen… most of the time.

Séance Suspect Dossiers

THE MEDIUM (male or female): A world-renowned psychic medium’s reputation precedes them. They have become the face of psychic phenomenon and are touring the globe spreading awareness for mediumship and spiritualism in both large events and small gatherings. To sit with them for a séance is a true honor, and their waiting list is large – as are their fees. They are confident, assertive and know how to command a room.

THE AUTHOR (male or female): The youngest child of one of the most prominent families in the Detroit area, they are vivacious and creative. An Indie Author, their career has taken off over the years thanks to a series of books they wrote when they were still in boarding school at Cranbrook. The books were recently picked up by Amazon Prime to be reworked into a television series, and readers are going crazy for it. The Author now enjoys a dedicated fan base and large royalty checks. Because of their new wealth and celebrity, they lease an exclusive upper floor apartment at The Whitney, because they claim the estate, and the grounds, were the birthplace of their inspiration when they first lived in this same apartment with their family as a small child.

THE SPOUSE (male or female): The Spouse and the Victim were approaching their five-year wedding anniversary, and the two were planning to take a trip abroad to celebrate. A skeptic of the Medium and the paranormal as a whole, the Spouse tried to dissuade The Whitney Estate from allowing the Medium to host a séance at the Manor, but their complaints fell on deaf ears. The Spouse is a practical person who loved their spouse very much, and only agreed to attend tonight to support The Whitney Estate, who are receiving much-needed financial compensation from the Medium to use the Ghost Bar for this event.

THE MATRE’D (male or female): The Matre’d at The Whitney has worked for the Estate since before the property was converted from a family home into a public space. A particular person, the Matre’d runs the Manor as though it were a tight ship and heads up the staff. After all these years, the Matre’d has become great friends with the estate conservators and treats the entire staff as though they were of their own flesh and blood. The Matre’d’s loyalty to The Whitney knows no bounds, and all who work at The Whitney look to them as though they are a second parent.

THE ASSISTANT (male or female): Assistant to the world-famous Medium, the Assistant helps the Medium with anything they may need. While traveling with the Medium, the Assistant has seen many things they cannot explain, and any skepticism they had when they first began working for the famous psychic has since disappeared. The Assistant is compensated well for their efforts and is traveling the world as they work – something they always dreamed of doing but never thought they could achieve. The Assistant is timid and slightly skittish, clearly used to working behind the scenes.

THE ALOOF GUEST (male or female): They are quiet and timid, and clearly uncomfortable being at this séance. Their pale complexion only adds to the spooky atmosphere of the séance, but they ask questions with an assertiveness that seems to go against their soft voice and mild mannerisms. While they don’t say much unless asked, this person is clearly taking in everything and everyone around them, as though they learn far more by watching what the others do than they ever would by hearing their words alone.

THE SOCIALITE (male or female): Also a fan of the Medium, the Socialite is a single person of high society who enjoys the notoriety of things that are more “off-beat” as much as the experience itself. While not well-known around the Detroit area, the Socialite is clearly a person of great confidence, and obviously used to being in command of a room of people. The Socialite has a way of setting everyone at ease, and their smile and welcoming persona make those who don't know them instantly feel as though they have been friends for years.

THE FAN (male or female): An ardent follower of the famous Medium, the Fan was enthusiastic about meeting the Medium in person. Having followed their career for years, when it was announced that the Medium would be holding a séance at The Whitney, the Fan used their influence to get themselves a seat at the table. The Fan is a well-dressed person who does not feel the need to impress everyone by talking about themselves, but are clearly happy to be involved, if not a little starstruck.
