Creative Writing In The Field

As children, we looked forward to taking field trips with our class. It was an excuse to escape the day-to-day drudgery and expand our horizons with new experiences in fun places. We were exposed to different environments that stimulated enthusiasm for study. We learned new approaches to our work simply because we did it surrounded by sights, sounds, textures, and aromas of unique spaces. These experiences strengthened our understanding and helped us to develop empathy for our friends' perspectives. In the field, we were given permission to learn and practice our skills differently, away from the expectations of pre-defined criteria. We became more proficient because learning was camouflaged by fun.
Creative Writing In The Field are full-day excursions to entertaining places that will encourage your creative process in new ways. We'll have a loosely planned schedule, tight enough to immerse fully in the extraordinary writing experience each location offers but relaxed enough to allow you to chat with your friends... play, share a meal, and perhaps meet some new people and become exposed to different writing techniques.
We have found that long-hand writing in notebooks is best for these adventures due to the unpredictability of access to electricity. However, if you have a device with a long life or an alternate portable power supply, you're more than welcome to bring your device. We recommend you come prepared to plop down on the grass, floor, or a bench as you write. Changing your body posture while in a creative atmosphere can dramatically impact the words you write. Bring along a light and easy-to-carry cushion or chair, if you like, just in case.
Travel, admission fees, and meals are each individual writer's responsibility. Your advance RSVPs will help us to plan and make the most out of the day we'll spend together. If you have questions regarding particular rules and regulations (especially about things like service animal access, menus, social distancing restrictions, etc.) please visit the website listed for each venue for those specific details. Cancellations due to inclement weather, poor interest, or emergency will be conveyed in an email to all who RSVP, and those details will be announced on this page and on the Indie Reads Facebook group event page. It is best to RSVP in advance to stay up to date on any trip changes.
Contact Us with any additional questions or concerns.
