The focus of the Story Scribblers Writer’s Retreat is on WRITING… and we’ll also offer some time for learning with a variety of workshops, informal critique sessions, and time for beta reading with friends. We’ll host a Mini Book Festival where authors can share their work, learn about the books others have written, and perhaps sell or buy a few. We’ll end our time together with our Retreat Awards Breakfast, and a “Writer’s Improv Theatre Experience." It will be a fun weekend full of words and laughter… and you’ll go home with a tribe of new friends you never realized you’d find…
And... if you love a piece you've created either before or during the Retreat, you can submit it to our "Summer Vacation" anthology, which will support charity. If you submit, we'll send you a copy after it's published, at no additional charge!

Our Writer’s Retreat is limited to just 60 Indie Writers. You may be already published, just learning, or working on fine tuning your writing as you get it ready for world, either is just fine with us. However, we expect that you are serious about your writing craft, and dedicated to the Indie Author Process. This is going to be a weekend focused on writing, sharing, learning, and support. Imagine an experience like High School Band Camp... all the fun without the chaperones and curfews! Small Press authors are also invited to attend.
If you can't take two days away from your "day job" to come write with us, we understand. We will accommodate late arrivals on Friday, August 25, 2023, however because this is an "all-inclusive" event, we cannot reduce the fees for those arriving on Friday morning. If it is impossible for you to attend from Breakfast time on Friday, please do not reserve a space... allow another writer to attend.
Each morning you'll have the option to Greet The Day with Mandy Jo's Yoga class or sleep a little longer. Each night, we'll share time with a Campfire Storytelling Circle, during which we'll probably indulge in far too many S'mores and just the right amount of laughter... and perhaps a little suspense. On Sunday morning, you’ll have the option to attend Sacred Christian services in the Chapel.

The Colombiere Conference Center is a secluded place filled with acres of towering pines, oaks, open fields, and walking trails. Gardens and pathways throughout the grounds invite you to take a break, breathe, walk in conversation with other writers, or simply steal away a little alone time with your Muse. Comfortable dormitory-style accommodations allow for friends to share the energy of the creative process. There are cozy common areas where you can gather in small groups or find a corner to immerse yourself in writing. The dining facilities offer a wide variety of buffet-style meals to serve many different dietary restrictions and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, lactose intolerant, and nut or shellfish allergies. We'll be sure to pair you with a roommate who will offer laughter and inspiration to your weekend, and we'll keep your tummy happy with delicious meals and fun snacks.
The Story Scribblers Writer’s Retreat is first come, first served, and submitting a piece or two for our community service project, "Summer Vacation" is OPTIONAL. If you’d like to join the fun, here are the guidelines…
Step Two: The Writer's Details. In this form, you’ll give us all the important details. Writers must be 18 years old or older to attend the 2023 Story Scribblers Writer’s Retreat, and because this is a limited attendance, focused event, spouses or significant others will not be accepted to attend unless they are also writers working on a WIP, or planning to develop a new project. Therefore, all applicants must complete separate Details forms, even if they share a life. Unfortunately, we do not have accommodations for animals at the Center. Sorry, but your super-floofs, feathered friends, and amphibian/reptile associates will have to stay home. Certified Services Animals, of course, are the exception.
We are focused on serving community through the written word, and so the story(ies) or poem(s) you submit will be edited and published in an anthology to support The Haley Sue Foundation.
