About The Author: Michael Samerdyke was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a graduate of the Odyssey Writers Workshop and has won the Lonesome Pine Short Story Contest twice, for "Snowman" and "The Rest of the Way Home," and the Appalachian Heritage Writers Symposium contest for "The Frankenstein Doll." He currently lives and writes in southwestern Virginia.

The twenty-two stories in "Land Beneath the Shadows" show how the vampire and the werewolf first came to haunt the bitter soil of Kurgania.
Characters such as Galgern, the first werewolf; Azharut, who brought the curse of vampirism; the doomed lovers Queen Danissa and Gieresko the Damned; and Strelitz, chronicler of the vampire cult, can be found in these stories.
